Carlos Vela, Laurent Ciman named 2018 MLS All-Stars

LAFC duo become club’s first-ever All-Stars

The first MLS All-Stars for the 2018 season were announced on Monday, and two Los Angeles Football Club players, forward Carlos Vela and defender Laurent Ciman, are among those honored.

Both players entered through fan efforts. Ciman was part of the Fan XI, and has received his third MLS All-Star selection in his four seasons in MLS. The center back has helped lead LAFC to third place in the Western Conference to this point in the season, and has scored a surprise three goals in 13 league appearances so far.

Vela is receiving his first MLS All-Star selection, this being his first year in the league, and he won the EA Sports “More than a vote” selection, given to the player who is used to score the most goals among MLS All-Star eligible players on FIFA 18. The Mexican has seven goals and five assists in 12 games for LAFC so far.

The initial 11 All-Stars only represent a handful of MLS’s 23 teams, with six players from Atlanta United (who will be hosting this year’s All-Star Game), LAFC’s two, and one each from Sporting Kansas City, LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers. The roster will be filled out in the coming weeks based on the picks of ASG coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino and on MLS Commissioner Don Garber’s selection.

The 2018 MLS All-Star Game will take place on Aug. 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with the All-Stars squaring off against Italian giants Juventus.

Congratulations to Carlos and Laurent!
