LAFC Slammers U18/19 team in U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs final

You can watch the big game Friday afternoon.

LAFC Slammers are concluding their first season as a program with a huge game Friday afternoon, as the U18/19 academy team will take on Solar Soccer Club in the U.S. Soccer Girls Development Academy playoffs final for the 2017-18 season in Oceanside, Calif.

LAFC Slammers entered the playoffs as the No. 6 seed in the country, and lived up to the billing by reaching the final, beating top seed Crossfire Premier in the semifinals, with USWNT youth internationals Jenna Nighswonger and Kate Wiesner leading the way.

Interestingly, LAFC Slammers, a partnership between LAFC and the successful Slammers FC academy, will be leaving the USSDA next season and moving to ECNL, which had previously been effectively the de facto girls development academy program prior to U.S. Soccer setting up a girls program for this season. Slammers FC have found considerable success in ECNL and the partnership with LAFC looks set to continue in the other competition. So this final could be a “drop the mic” moment to end the tenure for the oldest age group in the pyramid with a championship before moving to the other competition.

The final kicks off at 3:30 pm PT on Friday, and you can watch the game on USsoccer.com, the Development Academy’s Facebook page, or U.S. Soccer’s YouTube page.

Best of luck to LAFC Slammers U18/19s in the final!
