LAFC Slammers completed their debut season in style at the U18/19 level on Friday, defeating Solar Soccer Club 1-0 in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs final in Oceanside, Calif.

LAFC Slammers took the lead in the 27th minute, from a deflected shot from outside the box by Abby Greubel.

To that point, the teams had played pretty evenly, with LAFC Slammers perhaps edging their opponent.

It stayed that way until about the 70th minute, as Solar Soccer Club turned up the intensity and largely held LAFC Slammers pinned in their own defensive third, with only a few counterattacks to break the sustained pressure.

Aside from the goal, the biggest play of the game came in second-half stoppage time save by LAFC Slammers goalkeeper Giulia Cascapera to hold Solar scoreless and maintain her side’s lead, holding on for the 1-0 win.

The win means LAFC Slammers will depart their lone season in the USSDA with the national title at the oldest age level, ahead of the program’s move over to the ECNL next season. Many of the group that won the title will move onto college in the fall, and maybe a few will reach the pros one day. Either way, many congratulations LAFC Slammers for making history!
