As many World Cup-bound countries announce their 23-man squads for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, comes word of players associated with Los Angeles Football Club and their ultimate World Cup fate.

The player believed to be the biggest lock for a trip to Russia, LAFC forward Carlos Vela, was confirmed on Monday, as Mexican National Team head coach Juan Carlos Osorio officially included the Cancun native to the final roster.

Vela, 29, is in line to play in his second career senior World Cup, after playing in the 2010 tournament in South Africa. The forward has been in fine form since joining LAFC this year, scoring seven goals and five assists for the expansion side.

Vela’s form has carried into the pre-World Cup tune-ups for El Tri, too, as he set up the lone goal in Mexico’s friendly win over Scotland at the Estadio Azteca on Saturday.

Mexico will play in Group F, opening the tournament against the defending champion, Germany, on June 17, followed by games against South Korea (June 23) and Sweden (June 27). They have one final tune-up friendly, on Saturday against Denmark.

Congratulations to Carlos, and best of luck on your international adventure!
