LAFC’s Carlos Vela voted captain of 2018 MLS All-Star Game

If you were on Twitter over the past week, you surely saw a barrage of #VoteVela hashtags. That was in relation to the poll for 2018 MLS All-Star Game captain, with the most votes/hashtags registered winning between Carlos Vela, Diego Valeri, Michael Parkhurst and Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Good news, as the Los Angeles Football Club man took the honor, beating out a late charge from the large, rowdy Atlanta United fanbase for Parkhurst. So Vela, in his first season in MLS, will be both an MLS All-Star and the captain of the team, likely from the start.

The 2018 MLS All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday in Atlanta, with the All-Stars squaring off against Serie A champions Juventus. In addition to Vela, LAFC defender Laurent Ciman will also represent the Black-and-Gold at the 2018 MLS All-Star Game.

Congrats to Carlos, good job everyone who voted for him, and also, glad it worked because our timeline was like wall-to-wall #VoteVela tweets for several days.
