Orange County SC are back in action on Wednesday night, the start of a two-game week, and they welcome a brand new opponent to Orange County Great Park in Las Vegas Lights FC.
Las Vegas have been a revelation this season, between the force of nature that is Chelís already being suspended multiple games twice this season, to the llamas that are their mascots, to the bold kits (I’m a fan, by the way), their rampaging goalkeeper who takes set pieces, Freddy Adu...you name it. This team is one of the most interesting teams in North American soccer, no question about it.
On the field, however, it hasn’t quite lived up to hopes for Vegas, as they’ve had some highs and lows, but are sitting in 13th place right now, seven points from the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. On paper, this is definitely a game Orange County should take.
OC are coming off a good win against Phoenix Rising FC, but they have to avoid the trap game against Las Vegas at home, especially with a road game in Portland this weekend. With Sacramento and Phoenix both within three points of Orange County in the standings, Braeden Cloutier’s side need to keep their unbeaten streak going to stay so high in the table.
Two Vegas players, Miguel Garduño and Joel Huiqui, are suspended for this game, while no one is banned on the Orange County side. Can OC keep the good times rolling? Here’s hoping they don’t crap out against Lights FC.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 44 points (13-6-5), 2nd place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +23; Last five games: W-W-D-D-W
Las Vegas Lights FC: 26 points (7-10-5), 13th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -14; Last five games: L-W-L-W-L
How to Watch Orange County SC vs. Las Vegas Lights FC: The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm PT at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine. You can watch the stream only on ESPN+.
