When Carlos Vela was signed by Los Angeles Football Club last summer, ahead of the expansion team’s first season, he immediately hinted he wanted to bring one of the biggest stars in the world, Antoine Griezmann, to the City of Angels.
It took a full year, but that interest was reciprocated by Griezmann himself this week, as he sent a message over to Vela after winning the UEFA SuperCup on Wednesday.

Vela and Griezmann played together at Real Sociedad from 2011-14, so they know each other well, and the love appears to be mutual on both sides.
Now, to be fair, Griezmann didn’t say for sure he will play in MLS (he could come back on vacation next summer), or that it would necessarily be for LAFC — he could potentially play for the LA Galaxy. In addition, Griezmann may be settled at Atlético de Madrid, but the 27-year-old has openly said in the past he’d be moving to other clubs, at one point Manchester United, and then last season reports in Spain claimed his move to Barcelona was complete, but it never actually happened. So between that and some of his other issues in the past (cough, blackface on instagram, cough), maybe Griezmann could use some better advisors. At the same time, he’s a good player and would surely be a hit in MLS and a talented teammate for Vela would probably help prolong the Mexican’s career.
Still, Griezmann is reportedly under contract to Atlético until 2023, so this story is sure to drag on here and there over the years. Stay tuned!
