Los Angeles Football Club eschewed fireworks in the third edition of El Trafico on Friday, battling back in a surprisingly defensive performance to tally a 1-1 draw at StubHub Center. Carlos Vela scored the equalizer for LAFC after earning a penalty, canceling out Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s first-half goal.
So who was the best player for LAFC in the draw? As always, you be the judge, and here are your nominees, as selected by Angels on Parade staff:
- Tyler Miller: The goalkeeper made three saves, three blocks and caught two crosses to nearly maintain his shutout run. To be fair, Zlatan’s goal wasn’t otherworldly like the first one he scored on Miller, but this one was not one that really any other MLS player could have made in this way.
- Lee Nguyen: The midfielder had good moments on both sides of the ball and really dug in to do the dirty work on defense on a night when that was important. Nguyen is keeping Andre Horta out of the lineup and making his case to stay there.
- Diego Rossi: Drew three yellow cards, at least one of which could have been a red, and pushed the Galaxy’s defense all night.
- Carlos Vela: LAFC were not clinical in attack, and needed a game-changing moment, and Vela obliged, drawing a penalty and making no mistake in converting it.
