Napoli fight back from 2-0 deficit to beat AC Milan 3-2

Napoli got their second big comeback win of the season, climbing back from down 2-0 to beat AC Milan 3-2. Napoli had a comeback win in their first game, a 2-1 win at Lazio. It really was a game of two halves, Milan were very impressive in the first half, and took a lead off a brilliant volley by Giacomo Bonaventura. The lead was then doubled for Milan by Davide Calabria. Things swung Napoli’s way in the second half though, as Piotr Zielinski grabbed a quick second half double, and then Dries Mertens found the winner in the 80th minute. It’s a great start for Napoli, to get two wins against two teams they will probably be competing with at the top of Serie A. This was actually Milan’s first game of the season, their game last weekend was postponed because of the tragedy in Genoa. Tough result in their first game, but promising signs for Milan from this game.

Christian Pulisic, Borussia Dortmund kick off their campaign with a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig

The Bundesliga was the last major European league to kick off, its first games were this weekend. After a very disappointing season last year, Borussia Dortmund started their season off with a big win at home against RB Leipzig. Leipzig actually scored first, but after that Dortmund stormed back, and got 4 unanswered goals for the win. Marco Reus scored his 100th Bundesliga goal in the game. Elsewhere, Bayern Munich picked up where they left off, with a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim, and John Brooks scored for Wolfsburg, as they got a 2-1 win over Schalke.

Rivalry week in MLS did not disappoint

Across MLS, Rivalry week had some interesting results. Seattle Sounders beat the Portland Timbers 1-0 in Portland, for their 7th straight win. In the process, they moved into a playoff position, and knocked the Timbers under the red line. The Red Bulls poured some cold water on D.C. United’s hot streak, beating them 1-0. Toronto FC continued their push for a playoff spot with a 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact. And in the Rocky Mountain Cup, Real Salt Lake crushed the Colorado Rapids 6-0. In the other match on Friday night, Atlanta United beat Orlando City 2-1, with the winning goal being Josef Martinez’s record breaking 28th goal of the season. Martinez broke the record with months left of the season, and if he keeps going on his current pace, he will shatter that single season goal scoring record.
