Los Angeles Football Club announced on Tuesday they have recalled defender Tristan Blackmon from his loan at USL side Phoenix Rising FC.
Blackmon, loaned to Phoenix earlier this month, played two games for Phoenix, starting and completing both, which were each 4-0 home wins.
The rookie, selected No. 3 overall by LAFC in the 2018 MLS Draft, has made 11 appearances across all competitions for his parent club. Used as the backup to Steven Beitashour at right back, he’s had ups and downs in his minutes to date.
The move, coupled with the departure of LAFC captain Laurent Ciman on Tuesday, has led to speculation, including on LAFC’s website, that Blackmon could serve as a backup center back for the rest of the season. It seems a bit risky to rely upon a rookie playing in a new position if it comes to that, but we’ll have to see if this is indeed the strategy for Bob Bradley.
For now, Blackmon’s teammate Shaft Brewer, Jr. remains on loan at Phoenix Rising FC.
