Orange County SC look to continue their strong run in the Western Conference, as they welcome Swope Park Rangers to Irvine for a Beerfest Saturday night event at Orange County Great Park.
OCSC are coming off a comeback draw midweek, when they tied Portland Timbers 2 2-2 in an unusual midweek afternoon kickoff. That game, coming off a bye weekend and with the unusual start time, seemed to be a challenge at the start for Orange County, who struggled mightily in the first half, going down 2-0, before really coming to life in the second 45 and posting a draw.
Swope Park, of course, is a team Orange County recently met, as the SoCal side beat the Kansas City outfit 4-0 on July 18 in Kansas City. SPR is an MLS2 team that has traditionally been very competitive, and this year they’re still in the playoff spots, but the team has opted to play far more inexperienced players of late, and that seemed to show in the teams’ previous meeting.
Both teams are on short rest here, with Swope Park Rangers playing LA Galaxy II to a draw on Wednesday. I would expect SPR offers a stiffer test for Orange County this time around, but if OC can get a win here, they can retain hold of 2nd place in the Western Conference, regardless of other results.
