Vote: LAFC Man of the Match vs. Chicago Fire

Which player acquitted himself well in the loss?

MLS: Los Angeles FC at Chicago Fire Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

It was a tough day for Los Angeles Football Club on Saturday, as they lost 3-1 to the Chicago Fire on the road. A golazo from Djordje Mihailovic, a penalty by Nemanja Nikolic, and a counterattacking strike from Aleksandar Katai did more than enough to overcome Diego Rossi’s consolation goal on the day in the Windy City.

As ever, we hold Man of the Match polls for games — win, lose or draw. Clearly, the game was not a vintage performance for LAFC, but here are the Man of the Match nominees, as selected by Angels on Parade staff:

  • Lee Nguyen: Only played the second half, but his influence was immediate when he replaced, as he helped push the attack forward and give LAFC more coherence.
  • Diego Rossi: The play where he scored was the highlight of the day, as he saved a ball from going out of play, started an attack and finished it with aplomb.
  • Carlos Vela: Hit an awesome throughball that began the play which eventually led to Rossi’s goal, and was the focal point all day. Wasn’t at his absolute best, but was pulling the strings throughout regardless.
