After posting an impressive 4-2 road victory over Toronto FC, Los Angeles Football Club have a little time to get healthy and take stock of the road ahead as we finish up the regular season. We can also bask in the honors for LAFC players, in particular forward Carlos Vela.
The Mexican was named to the MLS Team of the Week on Monday, unsurprisingly, after he scored a brace (yes, officially), assisted a third and set up the fourth, only for a defender to get a touch on the way through, in the victory.

Vela’s teammate, goalkeeper Tyler Miller, was also named to the Team of the Week, in the bench section, after posting five saves in the win.
We thought there might be a chance Vela would end up as MLS Player of the Week, too, but Real Salt Lake’s Damir Kreilach beat him to it, with the typical “hat trick beats anything” reasoning that usually prevails in these votes. Vela ended up in second place for the week.
But, Vela is nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, and honestly, this is something he should land for his magical strike from no angle. He’s quite a ways behind at this point, so drop what you’re doing and vote now, and tell your friends to get their votes in by midnight Wednesday.
Congrats to Carlos and Tyler, and let’s get Carlos the Goal of the Week award.
