Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann recently dropped a hint about joining pal Carlos Vela, possibly at Los Angeles Football Club, in the future. But there is apparent competition for Griezmann’s increasingly likely future MLS destination.
NBC Sports reporter Joe Prince-Wright tweeted out a portion of an interview with Griezmann at French outlet L’equipe, where the World Cup winner says he’ll be joining either Miami or LA in MLS to finish his career.
Antoine Griezmann to @lequipe: “If Beckham wants me in his club, then I'll go. I want to finish my career in the US. I don't know yet if it's going to be in Miami or Los Angeles. They are two great cities. I like the mentality & the show culture of the US”#MLS #InterMiami #LAFC pic.twitter.com/gJnumrdCZ1

Griezmann, 27, is becoming more outspoken on his desire to move to MLS in the future, and both he and Vela have now spoken of a reunion at LAFC. At the same time, David Beckham’s Miami expansion team, the newly-minted Inter Miami, is currently on track to kick off in 2020, and guess what? Europeans freaking love Miami, so the competition is real.
At the same time, it’s worth inserting the usual caveats with Griezmann here: He’s spoken in the past at length about joining Manchester United, which didn’t actually happen. Then, earlier this year reports were rampant that he was joining Barcelona for the current season, and then it didn’t happen, as he re-upped with Atléti through 2023. Don’t be shocked if he talks up MLS for the next couple years and then never shows up, is what I’m saying.
Still, we’ll see if the Frenchman makes the plunge to MLS in the future, and which black-uniformed new MLS team could win the race for Griezmann’s signature in the future.
