What’s out there? What are they talking about?

Hi all. Are you a podcast listener? I am. I listen to so many podcasts, perhaps too many. But I can’t stop.

Los Angeles Football Club has a bunch of podcasts, and with a series of new shows launching lately, let’s take a non-exhaustive look at shows in English dropping episodes this week. If you like this recap, let me know, and if you know of other shows, let me know as well.

Black & Gold

Produced by the club and prominently placed on the team website front page as of Thursday, this show features Max Bretos, LAFC staff writer Vince La Rosa and beat writer Alex Dwyer.

After going over some highlights from the schedule, Bretos talks to LAFC boss Bob Bradley for a few minutes. Later, he talks to Mohamed El-Munir, one of the big additions to the team in the offseason, who admitted he was “shocked” to be traded from Orlando City to LAFC.

Season Pass

Dwyer is busy on the podcast front, as he’s helped launch Season Pass, an LAFC podcast that appears to be independent of the club. The first episode includes Ryan Wallerson and Josh Gross.

The first ep is just over a half-hour (sweet spot! More podcasts need to keep it snappy). They spend the first 10 minutes or so talking about the opening of preseason and the Carlos Vela-to-Barcelona transfer story (now dead), then get into talking about what they’ve seen in preseason training sessions.

Maybe the most interesting component of this discussion revolved around Andre Horta. While Black & Gold complimented Horta’s touch in preseason so far, on this show the guys seemed a bit more skeptical Horta would be able to get up to speed this year. They don’t necessarily write him off, but dropping hints like his decision-making may be suspect seems to indicate they aren’t guaranteeing he’ll be on a flyer this year. We’ll see!

Heart of LAFC

After returning from an offseason hiatus last week, diehard supporters Jerry Jimenez and Josef Zacher came back with another bumper pod at the start of the week. The guys recapped the USMNT friendly win, where Walker Zimmerman and Christian Ramirez played prominent roles. They go over the preseason win over Toronto FC, preview tonight’s Vissel Kobe friendly, and go over listener questions.

They briefly mention The 3252 will be holding elections next month, but promise more details in a future episode.

Defenders of the Banc

A new show this year, this show features two co-hosts, “Filly and The Scarf,” and the vibe is a relaxed sports talk radio patter between the guys. They talk the signing of Rodolfo Zelaya, the win over TFC, and some “Where are they now?” updates for players who have left the club. They also talk about the recent LAFC academy national team call-ups.

You can check out the podcast on Twitter, Instagram, and here’s their iTunes page.

Shoulder 2 Shoulder

Another new show, this one is brand new with their debut show dropping on Thursday. Chris and Christian, two LAFC Originals, dive into the world of LAFC podcasting.

Check out their website and find them on Twitter and Instagram.

Let’s circle back to currently prolific podcaster Alex Dwyer, who also launched a culture-related pod, FCFC, this week. In the debut ep, they talk to Monty Stevenson, a supporter well-known to LAFC circles who talks about how he made his way to LAFC.
