Vote: LAFC 2019 Attacker of the Year

We have a guess, but who was LAFC’s best up front in 2019?

MLS: MLS Cup Conference Semifinals-LA Galaxy at Los Angeles FC Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The offseason means it’s time again to decide the best of Los Angeles Football Club in 2019. We’ll throw out a category for each part of the team and you get to vote for the winners.

Today, we’ll take a look at the group of attackers, a group that made history for LAFC in Major League Soccer. LAFC’s attacking group played a big part in setting record after record in the Black and Gold’s Supporters’ Shield-winning 2019. The team scored 85 goals in 34 games, in large part thanks to the contributions from the guys going forward.

That said, here are your candidates for 2019 LAFC Attacker of the Year.

Carlos Vela

Vela, who brought home the Landon Donovan MLS MVP award in 2019, had an unprecedentedly good season for LAFC. Vela started 31 games for the Black-and-Gold, scoring 34 goals and tallying 15 assists from the right wing position. Vela broke the record for most goals in a season and most combined goals and assists, and was key to LAFC’s success.

Diego Rossi

Rossi, another one of LAFC’s Designated Players, was again a mainstay in LAFC’s lineup. Considered one of the brightest young stars in MLS, Rossi scored 16 goals and notched seven assists, and played in every one of LAFC’s games this season.

Brian Rodriguez

Rodriguez took the mantle of LAFC’s third Designated Player spot after the departure of Andre Horta. The 19-year-old Uruguayan joined LAFC in August, so he did not have a full season with the club, but he will look to add even more to LAFC’s potent attack. He did not score a goal or tally an assist, but only started five games for the team in the regular season.

Latif Blessing

Blessing, one of LAFC’s expansion draft picks, had yet another standout season, making his best case to be in the starting lineup day in and day out. He played in all 34 matches in LAFC’s regular season, and scored six goals and six assists. His blazing speed and creativity makes him dangerous every time he touches the ball, and proved himself to be an impact player beyond expectations early on in the season.

Adama Diomande

Diomande, after joining mid-way through the season last year, showed very quickly why the starting striker spot should be his until further notice. He scored eight goals and added seven assists from the No. 9 role, and is a threat every time he touches the ball in the box.

Adrien Perez

Perez joined LAFC in February after being a standout player for indoor soccer team Ontario Fury. He started one game for LAFC and scored one goal, but looks to be a bright talent moving forward.
