Orange County SC have made their latest roster announcement for the 2020 season, announcing on Wednesday they will bring back teenage trio Aaron Cervantes, Francis Jacobs and Diego Lopez for the upcoming campaign.
Of the three, only Cervantes played for the first team in 2019, the young goalkeeper getting his feet wet in the professional game, making 12 appearances across all competitions for OCSC. The 17-year-old went to the U-17 World Cup with the U.S. this fall, but did not appear as the Americans crashed out in the group stage. Cervantes showed real growth and potential for the future in his first pro action at USL Championship level.
Lopez, 17, was a late addition to the Orange County SC roster, joining in late September after nearly two seasons at Atlanta United 2. Lopez didn’t feature for OCSC in 2019 but the Chino native is clearly one for the future for the club and is likely to get some minutes in 2020.
Jacobs, 14, is the youngest pro in USL Championship these days and the second-youngest signing in men’s American soccer, after Freddy Adu. The midfielder unsurprisingly didn’t make his debut in 2019, and may not make it in 2020, either, but Orange County SC clearly think he’s got real potential as a pro to sign him so young.
These three join veteran defender Michael Orozco as players announced as returning by Orange County SC. One additional player, forward Michael Seaton, will not return as he’s signed a deal to play for German third-tier side Fortuna Koln. We’ll keep you posted on further roster announcements for OCSC as we learn them.
