Orange County SC announced on Monday they have signed forward Jerry van Wolfgang. It is a return for the 26-year-old, who spent the 2017 season with OCSC, before going to rival Reno 1868 FC last season.
Van Wolfgang played as Jerry van Ewijk on his last stop with Orange County — he reportedly changed his last name after he got married.
“I couldn’t be happier that Jerry has decided to return to Orange County,” said OCSC head coach Braeden Cloutier in a statement. “Jerry is a player that I had a big part in bringing to America two years ago, and I feel he fits perfectly with our style & system of play we have now implemented here in Orange County.”
Van Wolfgang scored eight goals in 29 appearances for OCSC in 2017, and was the most consistent attacker across the whole season, finishing the campaign the second-leading scorer on the team. With a stronger group around him this time around, it will be interesting to see if he can score more freely, or if he’ll be more of a complimentary piece.
With the season about a month away, look for more signings in the meantime for Orange County SC.
