Orange County SC announced on Tuesday the signing of veteran English midfielder Liam Trotter. The 30-year-old joins the USL Championship outfit on a free after his contract was mutually terminated by AFC Wimbledon to facilitate the move.
“I am extremely happy that we have come to an agreement with Liam,” said OCSC head coach Braeden Cloutier in a team statement. “This offseason we knew we needed someone of his stature in our team. He has the power and presence that we’ve been looking for. His leadership and experience will be invaluable to our team.”
Trotter, a native of Ipswich, England, has played his entire career to date in his native country. Turning pro with hometown club Ipswich Town in 2006, he’s also played for Millwall, Grimsby Town, Scunthorpe United, Bolton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and most recently, AFC Wimbledon. He was a teammate of fellow OCSC newcomer Harry Forrester at Wimbledon.
“I’m really happy to be joining the club,” said Trotter. “It’s an exciting new challenge and an opportunity for me to experience soccer and life in a new country. I can’t wait to get started and to be apart of the progression and growth of OCSC.”
Trotter is the latest Englishman signed by Orange County, joining Forrester and USL Championship veteran Charlie Adams this offseason. Orange County SC kick off the 2019 USL Championship regular season on March 9 at Reno 1868 FC.
