Los Angeles Football Club’s boys academy continued to mark milestones in recent days, as the U-15 squad will go to the finals of the 2019 Generation adidas Cup after qualifying in commanding fashion.
The U-15s, the oldest group in LAFC’s boys academy, reached the GA Cup finals as the top qualifier among the four MLS teams that clinched berths. They’ll be in the inaugural U-15 tournament alongside Toronto FC, the New York Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union, as well as four to-be-named Liga MX U-15 squads.
“Our philosophy in the club is, of course, give them options to be successful but at the end of the day, we have to allow the player to be free to succeed in their own way,” LAFC academy coach Cristiano Scapolo said to LAFC’s website after qualifying this weekend. “That can help if they are going to join other teams with a different style, like national teams. Here at LAFC, we very carefully make sure that we help them to achieve certain goals, but we let them have the freedom to find ideas and solve problems on the field.”
The GA Cup will take place in Frisco, Texas in April. Congrats to the team and best of luck at the finals!
