Los Angeles Football Club wrapped up their 2019 preseason slate on a decent note, as they defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 on Saturday at Banc of California Stadium.
Carlos Vela was in the middle of the action, some good, some to be determined.
LAFC fielded a full-strength lineup on the night, as you would expect:

They scored the opener in the 13th minute, as Christian Ramirez sent a pass to the right flank to Carlos Vela, and the superstar found another way to impress, as he dribbled upfield and finished calmly with his right foot to beat Zac MacMath.
A concerning sight took place just after the break, as Carlos Vela was followed hard and picked up a knock. He exited the game for Latif Blessing in the 52nd minute, and went to the locker room. Hopefully it’s precautionary, but something to track over the coming days.
Bob Bradley opted to make three additional substitutions shortly after the hour mark, as three more players who could plausibly start entered the game.

So it’s preseason, as we keep saying, but the performance can hopefully be something for LAFC to build on ahead of the season opener, a week from Sunday, at The Banc against Sporting Kansas City. Vela’s status is sure to be a hot topic, hopefully we get word tonight that he’ll be fine, but it’s a waiting game in the meantime. And now, we can fully gear up for March 3. Can’t wait.
