Angels on Parade predicts LAFC’s 2019 MVP

Probably no surprises here.

Our season previews continue apace, so let’s turn our attention to who Angels on Parade contributors think will be the MVP of Los Angeles Football Club in 2019. Unlike some of our other predictions, this one has more consensus.

Patrick Stoll

For me, Carlos Vela is a clear-cut choice to be LAFC’s 2019 MVP. In his first year in MLS under Bob Bradley, Vela notched 14 goals and 13 assists. Vela placed in the top five in MLS for MVP voting, and was the best player on LAFC, at times being unplayable on the pitch. Vela is clearly one of the best players in MLS and did not really slow down after the World Cup with Mexico. That said, he has another offseason with Bob Bradley, and with his system in place and the talent around him (Diego Rossi, Adama Diomande, and Christian Ramirez, to name a few), Vela will absolutely have the chance to perform at a very high level for LAFC, and likely will finish as an MVP finalist in MLS once again.

The team MVP in 2019 will be Carlos Vela. Vela is the teams best player, and lead LAFC in both goals and assists last year. While he might not lead the team in both statistical categories again, he will again be counted upon to perform at the highest level. Other players will need to play well for LAFC to win trophies, but expect Carlos Vela to lead the way again this year.

I think for LAFC to be successful (we’re talking trophy-winning success) they obviously need a team effort, but yes, Carlos Vela will likely be in the middle of it all. He’s the one player who can take over multiple games in a season on his own, and until that changes, he’s the frontrunner. The expectations are high, but Vela is a player more than capable of being the key man for LAFC in 2019.
