Baggio Husidic departs LAFC preseason camp

Midfielder moves on for other opportunities

MLS: Los Angeles Galaxy at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps the biggest name among Los Angeles Football Club’s preseason trialists has moved on.

Midfielder Baggio Husidic has left LAFC, according to the LAFC Season Pass podcast on Monday. The 31-year-old departed because LAFC were not eager to sign him, and they wanted to let him go so he could find other opportunities to sign elsewhere.

Husidic had been a controversial choice among some fans to come to LAFC camp, because he spent the last five seasons with the LA Galaxy. I doubt that history played any role whatsoever in LAFC moving on, rather his age, injury history and possible wage demands were likely bigger sticking points in the end.

LAFC may have trimmed a few more players off their preseason roster, as only Alejandro Guido, Philip Ejimadu, Kevin Mendoza, Conor O’Brien, Peter-Lee Vassell, Javi Perez and Adrien Perez played in Monday’s scrimmage against Columbus Crew SC among the unsigned players in camp. That doesn’t mean the others (Ricky Lopez-Espin, Wade Hamilton, Lamar Batista) are necessarily gone, but we’ll have to keep an eye on things. With LAFC having 21 players under contract right now, there’s room for more additions, but we’ll have to see which of the unsigned players get a deal and which will be moving on to other opportunities, like Husidic.
