With Los Angeles Football Club’s preseason ongoing, a report from John Rojas of AS says that 2019 MLS Draft pick Kevin Mendoza has departed training camp, without a contract offer.
Mendoza, 25, was LAFC’s fourth-round pick (No. 73 overall) this year, out of Liberty University. The midfielder had come through Cruz Azul’s youth ranks before moving to the United States. While with LAFC, he scored a goal in preseason action, the capper in last week’s 4-1 win over Vissel Kobe.

But it’s an uphill climb for any draft pick to earn a contract, much less a fourth-round draft pick, and it wasn’t meant to be for Mendoza and LAFC. He’s clearly got talent, so hopefully he can find a way to go pro, somewhere in North America.
We’ll keep you posted on more preseason news as it drops. Less than a month until the first game of the season!
