Four players are listed as out this week. Most notably, starting right back Steven Beitashour is out, listed with a concussion. Get well soon, let’s hope this injury does not linger. In his place, who will start? We’ll see but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Latif Blessing gets the nod again after making his right back debut in a competitive game in relief of Beitashour.
In addition, for those clamoring for Rodolfo Zelaya, bad news, as he’s officially listed out this week with a calf injury. The word from Bob Bradley previously is that Zelaya had some kind of minor procedure in the offseason that was putting him behind in getting up to fitness, so it’s unclear if this is a continuation of that or if this is a new issue. So you’ll have to keep waiting for him to make his MLS debut.
Two other players are out: Alejandro Guido remains out with a quad strain while goalkeeper Phillip Ejimadu is on the report for the first time with a back ailment.
Another concern: Lee Nguyen is listed as questionable with a hamstring strain. To me, he seems like an absolute lock when he is healthy and available, but if he’s too hurt to go, then that opens up a coveted midfield spot for someone else. There doesn’t appear to be a player who plays quite like Nguyen at his level on the roster these days, but Peter-Lee Vassell or Andre Horta could step in if Nguyen can’t play.
That’s it on the official injury report front. Remember, teams aren’t required to be completely thorough in their injury reports in MLS, so this is what we know based on available information.
