Los Angeles Football Club announced they have loaned four players — defenders Tristan Blackmon and Shaft Brewer, Jr., midfielder Javi Perez and forward Josh Perez — to USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC. The length of the loan is indeterminate, with LAFC able to recall the players at any time.
Three of the players, Blackmon, Brewer and Josh Perez, have been on loan at Phoenix before, last season. Brewer made 10 appearances, mostly off the bench, while Blackmon made 11 starts between regular season and playoffs. Josh Perez made one appearance in his brief time on loan. Javi Perez is a rookie, so he could make his professional debut with Phoenix if selected by Rising FC boss Rick Schantz.
The quartet joins another LAFC player already on loan at Phoenix in defender Lamar Batista, who started and played the full 90 in PRFC’s season opener last week, a 3-3 road draw at San Antonio FC. Phoenix open their home slate on Saturday night against USL Championship expansion side New Mexico United. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm PT and can be watched on ESPN+.
While I wouldn’t necessarily expect all five players to start for Phoenix, Schantz seems willing to incorporate LAFC loanees in his lineup and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see them playing some minutes, both on Saturday and moving forward.
