Three players from Los Angeles Football Club on loan at USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC appeared in the Arizona outfit’s 3-3 draw against New Mexico United on Saturday.
Tristan Blackmon started in central defense for Phoenix, reprising his role from the end of 2018 with the club, while LAFC rookie Javi Perez made his professional debut, starting and playing 90 minutes as a deep midfielder for the home team. He picked up a yellow card 11 minutes into the match for a foul in the center circle that just kind of wrapped up the New Mexico attacker.
At halftime, Shaft Brewer, Jr. entered the match at right back, slotting in alongside Blackmon on the right side of defense. When he entered the game, New Mexico were ahead 2-1, and the defense allowed another goal before the hour mark, but for the second week in a row, Phoenix rallied and posted a 3-3 draw.
The other two LAFC players on loan at Phoenix, defender Lamar Batista and forward Josh Perez, were not in the 18 for Saturday’s game. Batista started the season opener, while Josh Perez seems to have been limited during preseason by an injury and may still be working up to fitness.
Phoenix have a bye week next weekend before getting back in action on March 30 at home against Colorado Springs? Could some of the LAFC loanees return to their parent club with the MLS side having a game next week? We’ll find out.
