LAFC injury report: Andre Horta out for season opener

Designated Player unavailable vs. Sporting KC.

MLS: Los Angeles FC at Toronto FC Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

If you were looking forward to seeing Andre Horta fight for a spot in Los Angeles Football Club’s lineup for their 2019 MLS regular season opener against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, we have bad news for you.

Horta is one of three players listed on LAFC’s injury report ahead of the first game, as he’s listed out with a quad strain. The Portuguese midfielder, a Designated Player for LAFC, has yet to really find his footing for the MLS club, and while this could be a temporary setback, it’s a setback nonetheless.

Joining him on the injury report is new midfielder Alejandro Guido, also out with a quad strain, and forward Josh Perez, listed as questionable with a hamstring strain.

The good news is that Carlos Vela is not on the report at all. That seemed likely after he was announced to have suffered a knee contusion in LAFC’s last preseason game last week, with nothing more serious found in an exam. So expect the star to be on the field, most likely from the start, on Sunday.
