To cut to the chase, two players remain out this week: forward Rodolfo Zelaya and midfielder Alejandro Guido. Zelaya continues to have a calf injury, while Guido’s quad strain is also ongoing. In the case of Zelaya, if he were healthy this could have been a perfect opportunity for him to get some minutes with Christian Ramirez out on international duty, but that’s not always how things work out.
On the bright side, Steven Beitashour, who had suffered a concussion two weeks ago against the Portland Timbers, is off the injury report, presumably meaning he’ll be in contention to take his right back spot right back.
And Lee Nguyen, who missed the NYCFC game with a hamstring issue, is also off the list, so he could be back as well.
Update: Josh Gross got some details at training and Nguyen looks set to be out again this week:
Bob Bradley confirms Adama Diomande will start for LAFC on Saturday against RSL. Lee Nguyen likely won't be in the 18, and it's possible Andre Horta will start for the first time in 2019. Also Steven Beitashour was cleared Monday to play and is available for selection.— Josh Gross (@yay_yee) March 22, 2019
Bear in mind, while the sick bay is getting more and more sparse this week, international duty is also impacting LAFC’s lineup, with Ramirez (USA), Mark-Anthony Kaye (Canada), Peter-Lee Vassell (Jamaica) and Mohamed El-Munir (Libya) out of commission for the RSL game. Adama Diomande is likely to start in Ramirez’s place, and who will replace Kaye? That’s the big question leading into the game.
