LAFC’s Steven Beitashour fined by MLS Disciplinary Committee

Seems harsh, but at least it isn’t a suspension.

MLS: Los Angeles FC at Colorado Rapids Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

MLS announced on Wednesday that Steven Beitashour has been fined for violating the policy of hands to the face, neck or head of an opponent, after a tangle with Real Salt Lake’s Bofo Saucedo on Saturday.

Notably, the play, in which Saucedo was messing around with Beitashour along the sideline, trying to disrupt him for a throw-in, led to a yellow card for the RSL man, while Beitashour got no sanction in the moment.

And while MLS has stated a zero tolerance policy regarding this particular situation, wanting to discourage players from dangerous play and hurting each other, the actual content looks really pretty benign here, honestly.

So, it seems rather harsh to fine Beitashour (the amount is not publicly disclosed) but at least there wasn’t any competitive impact for LAFC, as he has not been suspended, thankfully. So he should be available to suit up for Saturday’s game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
