Three players from Los Angeles Football Club featured for USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC in their 2-2 draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday in Arizona.
Tristan Blackmon got the start for Phoenix at right back, while Javi Perez started as a central midfielder. 21 minutes in, Perez had a great chance to score off a late run, but his shot sailed.
Colorado Springs took the lead in the first half through Jordan Burt, and then Phoenix tied up the game through Joe Farrell before halftime. The final goals came late, as Adam Jahn gave Phoenix a late lead, but a stoppage-time free kick by Ish Jome gave Switchbacks FC a share of the points on the night.
Javi Perez came off in the 75th minute. I thought he was exceptional in the first half and then drifted a bit in the game in the second half, although he didn’t play badly, just not quite as well.
Blackmon went the distance, and seemed to play a bit of a combo fullback/center mid/center back role, especially late in the game. It was a good showing for the defender.
Two more LAFC players were in the 18 for Phoenix. Josh Perez was a late sub, entering in the 88th minute, so between the game’s final two goals. And defender Lamar Batista was an unused sub.
So another good runout, particularly for Javi Perez and Blackmon. I would expect them to continue to see minutes for Rick Schantz in Arizona as long as they remain on loan. We’ll see what happens next for the Phoenix Rising LAFC crew, as the USL Championship side’s next game comes next Saturday as they host Fresno FC.
