Los Angeles Football Club suffered their first loss of 2019 on Wednesday, with a 1-0 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place. Inbeom Hwang scored his first goal in MLS and LAFC were held scoreless for the first time, and that was that.
It’s never easy to think about good performances in losses, but we run the Man of the Match poll in every game, regardless of result. Sometimes players shine individually even when the result is poor, and we want to give you a chance to highlight those performances.
So here are the nominees, selected by Angels on Parade staff:
- Mark-Anthony Kaye: Wasn’t expected to feature but an unfortunate injury to Latif Blessing brought him in before halftime. Helped settle the midfield down and get some rhythm on the ball in the second half.
- Tyler Miller: Wasn’t at fault on Hwang’s goal and made three saves, including a breakaway block to keep the deficit to one goal.
- Eddie Segura: The only holdover on the backline, Segura was by far the best player on the defensive unit, cutting out a key breakaway chance and continuing to show his “Steady Eddie” abilities.
