With Los Angeles Football Club in action on Wednesday in Vancouver, three players on loan at Phoenix Rising FC were also in action that night, as Tristan Blackmon, Lamar Batista and Javi Perez started in a 1-0 loss at Austin Bold in USL Championship action.
Batista, who hadn’t played for Phoenix since the season opener, started in an unusual left back spot against Austin, while Blackmon remained at right back, where he’s played his last couple appearances for Rising FC. Both defenders played 90 minutes in the match. Perez, meanwhile, started in midfield, and played 62 minutes before coming off. He picked up an early yellow card for a studs-up tackle, but his shift was pretty quiet otherwise.
The game’s only goal came courtesy of Austin attacker Sonny Guadarrama, in the 52nd minute. Phoenix held a slight edge in shots but the home side prevailed.
Phoenix’s bumpy start to the season continues. They’ll be back in action on Saturday at home against Tacoma Defiance.
The other two players who have been on loan at Phoenix, Shaft Brewer, Jr. and Josh Perez, were with LAFC on Wednesday, with Brewer starting against Vancouver and Perez coming off the bench. Neither player had a spectacular match, but they are both young players getting their feet wet at MLS level. We will see if one or both players goes back to Phoenix or remains with LAFC.
