MLS released the schedule and details surrounding the 2019 Generation Adidas Cup, which will take place April 17-20 in Frisco, Tex. Los Angeles Football Club is participating for the first time, as they compete in the brand-new U-15 division.
LAFC will be joined by fellow MLS U-15 outfits of New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC, and they will compete against four Liga MX counterparts, in Chivas de Guadalajara, Monterrey, Club Leon and Cruz Azul.
LAFC will take on Cruz Azul on Apr. 17, followed by two games, against Leon and Monterrey, the next day. On the 19th, they’ll square off against Chivas, and their results will determine where they slot in on the final day of the Cup, as every team will play one day, with the top two finishers playing in the title game.
LAFC’s academy has only been around for a few years at this point, but they already have silverware, after winning the U-13 Concacaf Champions League last year.
U-15 players are still very much prospects, but with this being the oldest age group currently in LAFC’s boys academy and MLS teams getting more aggressive in signing Homegrown players at a younger age these days, don’t be surprised if a player or two from this group ends up signing with the first team eventually. First, it’s continue that development and that includes the Generation Adidas Cup. Best of luck to the boys.
