Orange County SC will look to put midweek U.S. Open Cup disappointment behind them as they welcome a new USL Championship foe in Austin Bold FC to town on Saturday night for the teams’ first meeting.
The teams are separated by just one point right now, but Austin are sitting five spots ahead of OCSC in the standings, showing just how compact the teams are at the moment. Austin are enjoying a decent start to their first campaign, being managed by Marcelo Serrano and featuring a very experienced roster, including former MLSers Calum Mallace, Amobi Okugo and Jermaine Taylor, as well as experienced GK Diego Restrepo, who has recent history against Orange County.
OCSC are coming off a scoreless draw in league play last week and then a tough 120 minutes of action before falling in a penalty shootout in the Open Cup midweek. Given that, Braeden Cloutier may have little choice but to rotate his lineup, including some key players who would otherwise play. And considering Austin are off to a good start and OCSC need points to keep pace in the Western Conference, the circumstances may be less than ideal. But that’s how it works sometimes, and maybe this will give some players a chance to make a case for more playing time moving forward. Should be an interesting one.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 13 points (3-3-4), 12th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +2; Last five games: D-W-D-L-W
Austin Bold FC: 14 points (4-3-2), 7th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +1; Last five games: W-L-W-D-W
