Canada’s provisional roster included LAFC defender Dejan Jakovic and midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye, while rookie midfielder Peter-Lee Vassell was selected to Jamaica’s provisional squad.
For the United States, three LAFC players were named to the provisional squad: goalkeeper Tyler Miller, forward Christian Ramirez and defender Walker Zimmerman.
Since this is the provisional roster, that doesn’t mean all six are guaranteed to actually go to the Gold Cup — Kaye seems pretty set to go, and Zimmerman and Ramirez seem to have solid cases as well, although with a new head coach in his first competitive games, it’s hard to predict what he’ll do with his final roster.
Perhaps the biggest story here is one that was previously known, that Carlos Vela isn’t on Mexico’s roster. Vela declined the call-up and that should be to LAFC’s benefit, as they won’t miss their superstar and he’ll get a bit of a blow with the domestic schedule slowing down in the month of June.
One more note: Former LAFC goalkeeper Luis Lopez, back at Real España, was a provisional call-up for Honduras.
So we’ll see who gets the final call. If all six get called up, that means four starters could miss time with LAFC, but it’s a testament to the quality of the players that they’re getting looks from their national teams. We’ll keep you posted on the international front.
