The first chapter of the 405 Derby of the 2019 USL Championship season is here, as Orange County go up the road to take on LA Galaxy II on Saturday night in Carson.
The teams are in similar positions, with Galaxy II one point ahead and three spots ahead in the standings at present. Mike Muñoz’s side, made up of largely academy players, is still prone to inconsistency, so it can be hard to track what they’ll do game to game. But they are improved this year and seem like they’ll be a good bet to remain in the playoff mix this season.
That said, Orange County will have a vast experiential advantage over their opponent and could really use three points. They’ve gotten results more often than not this year, but a fair number of games have been battling draws rather than victories and putting together a few wins would vault them up into the playoff spots themselves. Coming against the local rival? Have to think it would be a little more sweet.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 14 points (3-3-5), 13th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +2; Last five games: D-D-W-D-L
LA Galaxy II: 15 points (4-4-3), 10th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -6; Last five games: D-L-W-D-D
