Vote: LAFC Man of the Match vs. Portland

Which player took the plaudits in the road win?

MLS: Los Angeles FC at Portland Timbers Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Football Club ran up a lead but had to bear down late, as they defeated the Portland Timbers 3-2 on Saturday in the grand re-opening of Providence Park. Goals from Carlos Vela, Diego Rossi and Latif Blessing paced the winning side on the night.

With the result in the books, it’s time to assess the top player for the winning side. The nominees for you to choose from, as selected by Angels on Parade staff:

  • Latif Blessing: Scored what turned out to be the winning goal, his second in as many games. After adjusting to his new utilityman role, he’s adding the attacking element back to his game, which could make him nigh on unstoppable.
  • Diego Rossi: Another battling shift for the Uruguayan, who stuck with the program even with a couple misses, to come through with a vital goal, which puts him in a tie for third in MLS in scoring.
  • Eddie Segura: The defender lived up to his name with another impressive shift in central defense. What was particularly impressive was his ability to clear and play dangerous balls in safe spots to relieve pressure for LAFC.
  • Carlos Vela: But of course. Vela set the tone with the opening goal, got an assist in the buildup on Rossi’s goal, and drew a staggering eight called fouls on the night.
