Update, June 13 - It’s official: LAFC will host the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. The team announced on Thursday the game will take place on Thursday, June 20 at 7:30 pm PT.
Tickets are now on sale to the general public. All tickets are General Admission, with North End Supporters Section on sale for $10 and the East Side of the Stadium available to LAFC Season Members for $30 and to the general public for $40.
It will be the teams’ first meeting in the Open Cup. LAFC are undefeated all time against the Earthquakes in MLS league matches.
If LAFC advance, they will play the winner of the Portland Timbers-LA Galaxy game in the quarterfinal round.
Correction: Our mistake on the draw for the 2019 Open Cup. It turns out the draw will be redone after the fourth round is complete, and so LAFC may not necessarily play the LA Galaxy or Orange County FC after all. They could, but the draw may be bigger so they may not be guaranteed a local draw.
The Round of 16 will still be in the window of June 18-23. The draw will take place on Thursday, and not only will LAFC know who they’ll play, they’ll learn if they’ll be the home or road team for the next round.
Our apologies on the inaccurate information originally reported.
Los Angeles Football Club defeated Real Salt Lake 3-0 on Tuesday in the fourth round of the 2019 U.S. Open Cup. That means they advance to the Round of 16, and they’ll play one of two local opponents.
LAFC have to wait until Wednesday, when the LA Galaxy will host local amateur side Orange County FC in the fourth round. On paper, the Galaxy are huge favorites, as Paul Caligiuri’s OCFC side is the team to go furthest of the non-pro divisions in the American pyramid, beating USL League Two side FC Golden State Force, and USL Championship teams Orange County SC and Las Vegas Lights FC to make it to the fourth round. But, the USOC means that you never know how it will go, and if the Galaxy don’t use a strong lineup or take it seriously, or if Orange County FC play the game of their lives...
Of course, the Galaxy are heavy favorites, and if they advance we’ll have an El Trafico on our hands. Timing to be determined, with the window anytime between June 18-23, as well as the host of the next game. We’ll see!
