Los Angeles Football Club enjoyed a good Saturday, with an important win over the Portland Timbers, but elsewhere in the West their player on loan continued to put in minutes.
LAFC goalkeeper Phillip Ejimadu had an active week with FC Tucson. First, he won the USL League One’s Save of the Week for a stop against Toronto FC II, his third such selection of the season.
Then, he started and went the distance in a 2-2 draw against Orlando City B on Friday at Kino Sports Complex.
Ejimadu made a save on a free kick in the 26th minute, parrying the sharp attempt aside to keep the game scoreless.
But OCB found a breakthrough from a free kick just before halftime, a shot that was unstoppable.
After the break, FC Tucson came back and took a 2-1 lead, but they were pegged back with a late Orlando City B equalizer, as Ejimadu raced out to snuff out a counterattack and missed the ball, and the game ended 2-2.
Ejimadu continues to get game time in week in, week out for Tucson, and he’s been solid throughout. Tucson sit in 7th place in the league, with the top four going to the playoffs at season’s end. They’ve had good moments, not-so-good moments, but so has nearly every other team in the league, and there’s a lot of soccer left to play. Looks like Ejimadu will be part of that action moving forward.
