Orange County SC announced on Thursday they have signed midfielder Edson Alvarado. The 21-year-old joins after featuring for the club’s U-23 USL League Two side.
A native of Whittier, Alvarado began his professional career with Liga MX side Club Tijuana, making his competitive first-team debut in a Copa MX match in 2018.
“Edson has more than earned his opportunity to sign with the first team and I am excited for him,” said OCSC head coach Braeden Cloutier in a statement. “Edson has been with us from day one this season and has trained very well. His work ethic is first class and he has been our best League 2 player this season.”
“Orange County SC is home to me and the professional training environment has made me a better player,” said Alvarado. ”I am thankful for this opportunity to be here at this great club and I am looking forward to contributing for the team.”
Alvarado is the second signing in a week, joining another former Xolos player, defender Michael Orozco. OCSC will host Club Tijuana in a friendly on Thursday evening at Orange County Great Park in Irvine.
