Dejan Jakovic recalled from loan by LAFC

Veteran likely to feature against Colorado Rapids on Friday.

Los Angeles Football Club announced on Friday they have recalled defender Dejan Jakovic from his loan at USL Championship side Las Vegas Lights FC.

He made three appearances in his loan stint, his first competitive appearances anywhere in 2019. You may ask why LAFC are recalling him now, but the answer seems pretty clear: starting center back Walker Zimmerman is away with the U.S. Men’s National Team at the Concacaf Gold Cup, and primary backup Danilo Silva is listed as out for Friday’s match against the Colorado Rapids with a hamstring injury.

As a result, it seems pretty likely that Jakovic will get his first minutes for the black-and-gold for the game against the Rapids, starting alongside Eddie Segura. He could be a sub, but the other natural center back on the roster is Lamar Batista, who is also out on loan right now, and any other players who would slot in, like Tristan Blackmon, would be playing somewhat out of position. We’ll see, but seems like a good bet the Canadian will play on Friday night for LAFC.
