Los Angeles Football Club announced on Friday that they have loaned defender Dejan Jakovic to USL Championship side Las Vegas Lights FC. He is available to be recalled at any time.

The 33-year-old is in his second season with LAFC. He has yet to make a competitive appearance for the black-and-gold this year. It seemed he could be in line to possibly play in the coming games, and that’s still possible, but with starting center back Walker Zimmerman at the Gold Cup with the U.S. Men’s National Team, it looks like Danilo Silva will be the starter alongside Eddie Segura for the next several games.

Las Vegas were quite eager to bring in Jakovic, who was himself on the provisional roster for Canada for the Gold Cup, although he didn’t make the final cut.

“We’re thankful to get him to be a part of our team, he brings poise and experience and he’s still one hell of a soccer player,” said Lights FC manager Eric Wynalda in a release. “One of the things that you have concerns about when you get an experienced guy is the speed aspect. That’s not an issue with Dejan, he still has a step and will clearly help us in the air. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this team right now.”

“It’s awesome, I’m very happy to be here and very glad to join this talented group of players to hopefully pick up some wins”, said Jakovic. “I’ve been around for a while, I have a ton of experience abroad and in the MLS. I’m going to bring leadership and hopefully not concede any goals. We need to be compact, not just defensively in the back four, but the whole team.”

Jakovic could be in action for Las Vegas as soon as Saturday night, as Lights FC host Orange County SC at Cashman Field. You can watch the stream only on ESPN+.
