Full time: LAFC 0, Timbers 1. Wasn’t LAFC’s night, and their U.S. Open Cup quest comes to a close. Thanks for following, we’ll have more on the game coming up.
84th minute: Goal Timbers. Misplay by Jordan Harvey went right to Jeremy Ebobisse, who scores with a deft strike. LAFC really on the ropes here, only a few minutes to see if they can get an equalizer.
Halftime: It’s still 0-0. Portland have had the better of the play, but LAFC have weathered the storm, barely, in defense and we’re still tied up. What will the second 45 bring? Stay tuned!
LAFC keep Pablo Sisniega in the lineup, but the XI is otherwise first-choice:
Portland are playing a strong team, but Diego Valeri starts on the bench. Also of note, Giovanni Savarese won’t be coaching here, as he has to deal with a family emergency.
LAFC is in great form following an unimpressive road loss against the Colorado Rapids. Since then, Bob Bradley’s squad has notched back-to-back wins, defeating Sporting Kansas City and the Vancouver Whitecaps. LAFC outscored the two by a combined scoreline of 11-2.
The Portland Timbers have also been in sizzling form as of late. The squad has been victorious in four of its last five outings, highlighted by a 4-0 victory against the LA Galaxy in the U.S Open Cup Rd. of 16. Giovanni Savarese has been able to restore the form that led the Timbers to last year’s MLS Cup final. Argentine forward Brian Fernandez has continued to showcase his talent that led the Timbers to spend a club-record transfer fee on him.
Once again, expect both squads to put forth “A-teams” for this match. Bob Bradley has stated numerous times that LAFC will treat the U.S Open Cup with equal importance as all other competitions.
Bookmakers currently favor LAFC at (-300), while listing the Portland Timbers as considerable underdogs (+610). The odds for a draw are currently listed at (+430) (Odds valid through regulation time) (Via OddsPortal).
