Orange County SC rallied from a two-goal deficit, but couldn’t keep out a late Kris Tyrpak winner, as Austin Bold FC beat them 3-2 on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
Andre Lima opened the scoring for Austin in the 10th minute, as a Bold FC corner kick deflected off Leonardo in the 6-yard box before it set up for Lima to slam home, which he duly did.
The home side doubled the lead in the 21st minute on a similar play, with Sean McFarlane scoring a bit further back off another set play.
Then Orange County found a foothold in the 27th minute, as Joe Amico sent up a bloop cross that Edson Alvarado headed in on the doorstep to make it 2-1.
Orange County then tied it up in the 67th minute as Kevin Coleman set up Michael Seaton in front of goal, with the Jamaican putting it away.
But Austin had the final word, as substitute Kris Tyrpak scored the winner in the 92nd minute. It was a crushing blow, considering Orange County had gotten a grasp at the game in the second half and were pushing for a winner themselves.
After picking up just their first road win of the season last time out, it was going to be tough to follow that right up with another away win for Orange County. But letting even a road point slip away after a rally to draw level has to hurt. On the bright side, perhaps, four of OCSC’s next five games will be at home.
Speaking of, OC are back in action next Saturday at home, when they host San Antonio FC. There are 15 games left in the season, so there’s time to really get on track and get above the playoff line, but they don’t have an infinite leash to find traction, and the games are going to get more and more important in the coming weeks for Braeden Cloutier’s side.
