Despite only being in existence for a few years, Los Angeles Football Club has managed to build a very highly regarded academy program, to say nothing of the success of the first team.
On Monday, U.S. Soccer announced its awards for 2018-19 for their Developmental Academy. LAFC’s boys academy won a few national and regional awards in this list.
They won the Boys Coaching Staff of the year award for the West region.
Antonio Leone from LAFC’s U-15 team won the Golden Ball for this season’s Academy playoffs as the best player in his age group. This was the first year U.S. Soccer has given out awards for the Academy playoffs.
Christian Torres from LAFC’s U-15 team finished tied with Hugo Mbongue from Toronto FC for the Golden Boot at U-15 level, the top scorer award. These two teams met in the U-15 academy national final, with Toronto FC coming out on top 3-2.
The U-15 team for LAFC also won the Fair Play Award, for fewest disciplinary sanctions.
Congrats to the youngsters for performing so well. The future is bright indeed!
