Los Angeles Football Club announced on Monday they have acquired defender Eddie Segura on a permanent basis following a six-month loan with Colombian side Atletico Huila. LAFC announced Segura is on a multiyear contract.

The 22-year-old Colombian has been a fixture for LAFC this season, playing in every single game across all competitions. Partnered with Walker Zimmerman in central defense, Segura is the only starter new to LAFC’s roster this season and has helped the defense go from erratic to dependable in no time. While many LAFC players have been tremendous this year, Segura definitely deserves a share of the plaudits for the league’s first-place team.

“Eddie has played a crucial role in the team’s success in the first half of the season,” said EVP & general manager John Thorrington in a team statement. “He has leadership and presence beyond his years. He is a fantastic example to any player with his focus and how he applies himself and seeks to improve each day. He is a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to his continued contributions for years to come.”

This news is no surprise whatsoever, given that Segura has been a fixture in the lineup, and it’s exciting to consider the possibility he’ll continue improving in years to come. For now, LAFC have locked down a foundational piece for the club and that’s something to be excited about.
