Los Angeles Football Club forward Diego Rossi has been linked to a possible move to Italian club Fiorentina, and a report from Sky Italia this week claims the Serie A side are negotiating a $17 million bid for the Uruguayan.
Rossi, 21, has spent the last year and a half with LAFC. The leading scorer across all competitions for the club last year, and the man who scored the first goal in club history, he has 13 goals in 23 league appearances this year, surpassing his league total for last year. All told, he has 25 goals and 14 assists in 55 regular-season appearances to date in his MLS career.
The product of the Peñarol set-up, if Rossi’s exit is imminent it would appear LAFC have a replacement lined up in Brian Rodriguez, who is expected to be announced as a new signing for LAFC at some point on Wednesday. If Rossi is not destined to leave this month, then he and his compatriot will spend some time together, likely with an eye on Rodriguez to be the successor to Rossi if he is sold in a future window.
What are we to make of this story? It’s certainly plausible, hard to say if it is definitely true, since rumors in Italy run the gamut. I think $17 million is a valuation that LAFC would have to think hard about and may find acceptable, although they may think he may be worth more. The transfer window in Italy closes on Aug. 18, so we could hear more on this in the coming days. Stay tuned.
