Orange County SC are back in action after having last weekend off, with a Friday night clash against Tacoma Defiance in Washington state.
Both teams are below the playoff line in the Western Conference, but Tacoma are in the basement, five points adrift from the rest of the pack, while Orange County still have hope they can swoop in for a playoff berth if they hit a run. With time running out on the season, they are just two points from the final playoff spot entering the weekend, but they’ll have to beat out at least four teams above them to book a spot.
Former LA Galaxy II forward Justin Dhillon, who has made some appearances with Tacoma’s parent club Seattle Sounders this year, is Tacoma’s top scorer this season, with seven goals. Beyond that, goals have been very hard to come by, and while some promising players, like young midfielder Danny Leyva, has gotten competitive minutes, the team has struggled.
But Orange County have struggled on the road themselves this year, albeit in better form lately. This is as good an opportunity as they’ll get for three points, but given their up-and-down form this season, the squad will have to buckle down and focus whistle to whistle to seek three points.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 27 points (6-7-9), 14th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 0; Last five games: D-W-D-L-W
Tacoma Defiance: 14 points (3-13-5), 18th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -34; Last five games: L-W-L-D-D
