Orange County SC will look to kick off a winning streak as they head to Albuquerque for the first time to play New Mexico United on Sunday afternoon.
OCSC have won two straight games, taking them from on the outside looking in for the USL Championship playoff race and with their season in the balance, to jumping above the playoff line and being in control of their destiny with the two wins (Saturday’s results pushed them back below the playoff line). Now, they face a New Mexico side that may be an expansion team, but as we’ve seen in this league, expansion teams can be very good and they sit one point and one spot above Orange County in the standings, with the teams drawing 2-2 in their debut meeting this season, a game that was trending towards a loss for the California outfit before Leonardo’s stoppage time equalizer.
New Mexico have lost just once at home so far this year, with the three-way attacking punch of Santi Moar, Kevaughn Frater and Chris Wehan leading the way. This won’t be an easy game for Orange County SC, but if they’re at their best, they also have no reason to be afraid of the challenge, either. We’ll see how it goes down!
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 33 points (8-8-9), 12th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +4; Last five games: W-W-L-D-W
New Mexico United: 34 points (8-7-10), 11th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +1; Last five games: L-D-L-D-W
